“Holiday By the River” is an annual charity event located along the Minnesota River & Hwy 169 in North Mankato, MN. Blue Valley Sod started the tradition of this event in 2008 on the day after Thanksgiving. We plan to continue the tradition every year on this day since our first event was so successful and because of the needs of the community.
We invite young and old alike to partake in the festivities. Activities include: free horse & trolley rides, a free chili supper, visiting with Santa, carolers, enjoying various forms of entertainment put on by local choirs & volunteers, visiting our Christmas Tree Lot put on by the Miracle League of North Mankato, and enjoying the highlight of our evening…..the SPECTACULAR Fireworks display - choreographed with Christmas Music that can be heard on KDOG FM radio.
This is a free event for all, but we do ask for donations for local charities. Items to be donated can be new, quality unwrapped toys, non-perishable food items, new or gently used (but clean) clothing items, or monetary donations. All donations will go to the local Salvation Army and charities connected with the Salvation Army, such as Santa Anonymous.
Parking is available at the New Creation Church parking lot about a block north of the Blue Valley Sod Yard/Office. We also plan to include some of the activities at the New Creation Church to provide a warm indoor location in addition to the outdoor location at the Blue Valley Sod Yard.
